Senior Electrical Test Technician

Atlas Connections is partnering with an electrical testing and engineering organization to hire a Senior Electrical Test Technician 3. This hands-on role works independently on small to medium-sized projects or as part of a team on larger, more complex assignments. The technician is responsible for the administration, organization, and implementation of assigned testing work, while supporting the safe and reliable operation of critical facility systems.

Travel: As needed for projects in industrial, data center, and utility environments

Pay: $42–$60 per hour

What You’ll Do

• Develop the site’s electrical testing program and serve as a subject matter expert for the division’s operations and maintenance (O&M) program.
• Perform acceptance and maintenance testing of electrical power systems in accordance with applicable NETA standards. Test and troubleshoot protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and related equipment.
• Conduct relay testing, calibration, and programming; breaker timing and primary and secondary injection testing; and transformer turns-ratio, insulation-resistance, power-factor, contact-resistance, and high-potential (Hi-Pot) testing.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults, analyze root causes, evaluate test results, and prepare detailed reports for compliance and client review. Conduct or support short-circuit and arc flash studies using SKM or ETAP.
• Oversee electrical testing activities, assume supervisory responsibility during testing, and provide technical guidance to junior technicians.
• Train or manage operations staff in monitoring, operating, and updating system control applications. Revise controls as facility operations change or to correct problems and inefficiencies.
• Help develop processes, methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and operator training for the mechanical, electrical, life safety, and building control systems used to monitor and control the facility.
• Support the integration, reliability, and functionality of building control systems, including SCADA, Delta Controls, building management systems, and life safety systems. Troubleshoot operational problems and provide oversight when issues arise.
• Help implement computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) procedures to schedule, dispatch, track, and report MEP emergency repairs, adjustments, preventive maintenance, and warranty activities.
• Coordinate with the Program Manager to improve monitoring system performance and support government energy goals. Assist the MEP Operations Manager with electrical work and project schedules.
• Work with engineers, project managers, clients, contractors, and operations teams during commissioning and startup.
• Help develop and implement ORM safety procedures and safety meetings. Generate safety reports, maintain related records, and follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or GED and at least 7 years of relevant electrical experience.
• Valid, active U.S. work authorization.
• Experience performing electrical acceptance and maintenance testing safely with minimal supervision.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA standards and electrical safety practices.
• Proficiency in testing and troubleshooting protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and other electrical equipment.
• Experience with test equipment such as Doble, Omicron, Megger, Vanguard, and Fluke meters.
• Understanding of insulation-resistance, power-factor, contact-resistance, and Hi-Pot testing procedures.
• Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage systems up to 500 kV, including arc flash hazard analysis.
• Strong analytical skills, the ability to recognize developing problems, diagnose system failures, and produce clear technical documentation.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred: NETA or NICET certification, or equivalent hands-on electrical testing experience; and an OEM-certified field service training program.
