Position Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Distribution Courier operates delivery vehicles according to all established laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. This position performs routine inspections and upkeeps on delivery vehicles and communications equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. The Courier follows a predetermined route, along which items and materials are picked up and delivered. Maybe required to perform STAT deliveries. This position maintains continuous communications with the department, and maintains appropriate documentation of activities as required. The Distribution Courier is responsible for the pickup and delivery of medical supplies; surgical trays and equipment; blood and human specimens; pharmaceutical medications, including chemotherapy drugs; and other materials necessary for the daily operations of the hospitals and health system offices. The handling of the blood, specimens and chemotherapy drugs include risk to exposure of biohazards and chemical hazards. Some medical supplies items and surgical trays can weigh up to 50 lbs. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid driver’s license required.
EXPERIENCE: Must have the ability to drive and operate non-articulated vehicles up to 21’, delivery van with automatic or manual transmission and motorized as well as hand operated equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to blood-borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Requires the ability to load and unload delivery vehicles, and requires frequent bending, lifting, and stooping. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
