Position Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of Clinical Pharmacy is responsible for the oversight, vision and strategy of the clinical pharmacy programs and services at AtlantiCare. This position supervises and oversees the work of the Coordinators of Clinical Pharmacy, as well as specialized pharmacists, and ensures that clinical programs and services are developed, implemented and monitored for continuous improvements of the various processes involved in the use of medications within the organization.
The Director of Clinical Pharmacy provides leadership for the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of the processes involved with medication selection/procurement, prescribing, preparation/dispensing, administration and monitoring. This position is responsible for researching best practices, making assessments and recommendations, and setting the overall direction of the clinical agenda in support of quality patient care objectives. The Director of Clinical Pharmacy works collaboratively with internal committees, outside agencies, medical staff, nursing staff and pharmacy staff to ensure safe and effective pharmacotherapy and positive patient outcomes. This position develops policies and procedures to optimize drug utilization and medication safety in the organization.
The Director of Clinical Pharmacy also oversees the various clinical education programs for Pharm D rotation students, pharmacists, nurses, physicians and residents. By participating in educational activities, the Director of Clinical Pharmacy assumes responsibility for clinical competency and continued professional and personal growth. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, attention to pharmacoeconomics, and by demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Requires the ability to work at a computer 60% of the time; requires some standing and walking.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to the Corporate Director of Pharmacy, and directs and supervises the Coordinator of Clinical Pharmacy.

Qualifications
EDUCATION: Doctor of Pharmacy degree required. Advanced degree preferred (Masters). PGY1 Residency preferred; PGY2 Residency preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current license in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Pharmacist required, or eligibility to obtain. Clinical specialty training, Board Certifications, and/or publications preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 6-10 yearsclinical pharmacy experience required; 6 or more years in management or other significant leadership position required. Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills required. Excellent time management, organizational and team building skills required. Proficiency with computers required.
