Maintenance Supervisor β Injection Molding
Location: Detroit, MI
Salary: $85k - $100k
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor with strong technical injection molding expertise to support multi-shift manufacturing operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role - not a desk-only supervisor position. The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of direct plastic injection molding processing experience and the ability to lead production teams while coordinating maintenance priorities.
This role owns shift performance across cost, quality, throughput, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Shift Leadership
- Direct and supervise personnel during assigned shift coverage.
- Serve as shift performance owner for cost, quality, throughput, and safety metrics.
- Lead shift start-ups and adjust labor resources to meet production needs.
- Oversee mold changes and cell setups according to the production schedule.
- Monitor staffing levels and coordinate break coverage.
- Enforce safety policies and company procedures.
- Initiate corrective action when policies or procedures are not followed.
- Document performance and ensure clear shift-to-shift communication.
- Authority to stop production for safety or quality concerns.
Technical Injection Molding Oversight
- Ensure proper processing parameters are maintained.
- Troubleshoot molding, equipment, and process issues.
- Ensure first article compliance before production release.
- Move jobs in IQMS and maintain accurate production data.
- Provide technical coaching to operators and mold setters.
Maintenance Coordination (Primary Shift Focus)
- Coordinate preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
- Prioritize work orders to minimize downtime.
- Monitor downtime metrics and maintenance KPIs.
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification preferred.
- 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on injection molding processing experience (required).
- Strong understanding of mold changes, press troubleshooting, and processing fundamentals.
- Demonstrated maintenance coordination or technical maintenance experience.
- Working knowledge of LOTO, PPE, and machine guarding practices.
- Experience with IQMS or similar ERP systems preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing timecards and employee accountability.
Schedule
Primary coverage: 1st Shift
Flex coverage across 2nd and 3rd shift based on operational needs.
