Our main practice is located in Portsmouth, NH with additional offices in York, ME and Dover, NH.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our esteemed and expanding orthopedic specialty group in the New Hampshire Seacoast area for a long-term employment opportunity. In this role, you will work under the guidance of the Billing Manager to manage all internal worker’s compensation functions and perform related tasks that support these responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Claim Processing: Assist in processing initial workers' compensation patients including intake, data entry, and follow-up on claims.
- Record Keeping: Maintain and update records related to claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Communication: Communicate with medical providers, and insurance companies.
- Support: Assist Workers Compensation Supervisor with tasks related to workers' compensation claims.
Training: Participate in training programs to learn about workers' compensation policies and procedures.
Position Requirements:
Licenses or Certificates: Billing/coding certificate or special training a plus.
Education, vocational training, and experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent – associate or bachelor's degree in a business-related field preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical administrative support role.
- Intermediate to advanced computer and data entry skills
- Previous experience with worker’s comp intake, claims submission, negotiations and AR is a plus
- Basic coding knowledge including CPT and ICD-10 and Orthopedic specialty experience is a plus
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, medical providers, and insurance companies, both verbally and in writing.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and other relevant software is essential. ModMed a plus.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to organize and maintain records, as well as manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Basic Knowledge of Workers' Compensation: Familiarity with the fundamentals of workers' compensation is helpful.
- Coordinating with medical providers: Working with medical providers to obtain necessary medical reports and workers compensation forms.
- Verifying information: Tracking the status of claims and verifying information with insurance companies.
- Authorizations: Request authorizations from insurance carrier for recommended services.
Additional Job Responsibilities:
The Worker’s Compensation Coordinator’s tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage all aspects of the worker’s compensation line of business, including:
- Intake, form completion, and submission
- Prior approval requests for surgeries, diagnostic tests, and office visits
- Telephone communication and negotiations with patients, adjusters, case managers, and other internal and external contacts
- Ensure timely submission of claims, both electronic and paper, and follow up on unpaid claims.
- Answer calls as part of the business office phone queue from patients, insurance companies, referring physician offices, etc.
- Post insurance and patient payments.
- Process refund requests from patients and insurance carriers.
- Participate in educational opportunities to stay updated on job knowledge.
- Perform other departmental duties as assigned by the Manager.
