Position Summary:

Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Director of Revenue to lead our revenue cycle operations. This director-level position will oversee all aspects of Accounts Receivable (AR) and Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), including claims processing, collections, denials, reporting, payer contracts, reconciliation, and financial performance monitoring. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong analytical capabilities and deep knowledge of the healthcare reimbursement landscape, especially within orthopaedic or specialty care.

We already have an experienced Billing Manager in place, and it is crucial that the Director of Revenue works in close partnership with this role to ensure alignment, efficiency, and strategic execution across all aspects of the revenue cycle. This is a high-impact leadership position ideal for a motivated professional ready to take ownership of key financial functions and help drive the long-term success of a thriving, physician-led healthcare practice.

Practice Overview:

Founded in 1987, Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (AOSM) is a private, physician-led practice with a strong reputation as a regional leader in orthopaedic care. Serving the Seacoast community for over three decades, AOSM is known for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across a wide range of orthopaedic specialties.

We operate three locations in Portsmouth, NH, Dover, NH, and York, ME, and are proud to have a dedicated and growing team of 12 board-certified physicians and 9 advanced practice providers. Our young, energetic partner group is deeply invested in the long-term success of the practice, with no anticipated retirements and a strategic plan to expand to 10 partners by 2027.

Atlantic Orthopaedics has doubled in size in recent years, reflecting our continued growth and the increasing demand for specialty care in the region. As part of a broader organizational restructure, we are introducing new leadership roles to support this growth. The Director of Revenue position is a newly created opportunity designed to lead and elevate our revenue operations during this exciting phase of expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Revenue Cycle Oversight: Lead the end-to-end revenue cycle including charge capture, claims submission, payment posting, denial management, and patient collections.
  • Accounts Receivable Management: Drive AR performance metrics, reduce aging, and improve collection rates across payers and patients.
  • Claims and Denials: Oversee timely and accurate claims submission; monitor denial trends and implement strategies for appeal and prevention.
  • Contract Negotiation: Evaluate and negotiate payer contracts, fee schedules, and out-of-network agreements to optimize reimbursement.
  • Payer Relations & Rate Analysis: Monitor payer performance, rate changes, and market trends; perform impact analysis of rate adjustments.
  • Financial Reporting, Dashboards & P&L Oversight: Develop and maintain financial and operational dashboards to monitor KPIs such as DSO, denial rate, collection yield, and reimbursement variances. Provide leadership with revenue-related insights and maintain oversight of the Profit and Loss (P&L) statements to ensure financial health and strategic alignment.
  • Budgeting / Forecasting: Collaborate with leadership to develop revenue-related budgets and financial forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Out-of-Network Strategy: Oversee billing and reimbursement for out-of-network services; evaluate impact and opportunities for improvement.
  • Compliance & Industry Monitoring: Stay current on regulatory changes, reimbursement policies, and best practices within healthcare RCM (MGMA, CMS, AAOE)
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Work directly with department managers in billing, patient accounts, and workers compensation, provide ongoing training and support, and collaborate with clinical and administrative leadership to ensure optimal revenue capture. Lead projects like the implementation of a new claim submission dashboard.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of RCM operations, billing, coding (CPT/ICD-10), and payer contract negotiation.
  • Proven experience with data analytics, financial reporting, and revenue optimization strategies.
  • Experience working with orthopaedic or specialty medical practices is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems and billing software
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
