Atlantic Community School District is seeking a knowledgeable, collaborative, and detail-oriented School Business Official to oversee the district’s financial operations and business services. The successful candidate will play a vital leadership role in supporting the fiscal integrity and operational efficiency of the district while working collaboratively with district administration and the Board of Education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, School Business Management, or related field required
- Iowa School Business Official Authorization or willingness to obtain preferred
- Experience in school finance, governmental accounting, budgeting, payroll, or business operations preferred
- Knowledge of Iowa school finance and budgeting procedures preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple responsibilities effectively
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee district financial operations including budgeting, accounting, payroll, accounts payable, receivables, and purchasing
- Assist in preparation and management of the district budget and certified budget process
- Monitor district expenditures and revenues to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance
- Prepare financial reports and present information to the Superintendent and Board of Education
- Coordinate annual audit preparation and required state and federal financial reporting
- Oversee cash management, investments, and internal financial controls
- Manage employee benefit and insurance-related processes
- Assist with transportation, food service, facility, and operational business functions as assigned
- Ensure compliance with Iowa Department of Education, state, and federal financial regulations
- Support long-range financial planning and district operational goals
- Serve as Secretary to the Board of Directors in accordance with Iowa law and Board policy
