What are the responsibilities and job description for the Capability Leader position at ATI?
Purpose
Owner of current operator capability and action plans for development of operator skills and knowledge of the future. Provides coaching and guidance to operators to enhance their skills and knowledge. Assists in troubleshooting and process improvement efforts in collaboration with operations leadership.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborates with front line leaders to ensure appropriate operator tasks are executed safely and properly.
- Works with operations leadership and the training organization to establish long-term vision of operator skills and needs to build an improvement plan.
- Assists with the Area Business Team roles and leadership to define increasing future expectations.
- Provides subject matter expertise on standard operating procedures (SOPs), though not responsible for creating or revising SOPs.
- Works with Training Organization to ensure operators are being appropriately trained.
- Coaches and mentors operators in troubleshooting and resolving basic equipment performance issues, focusing on closing immediate performance gaps.
- Works alongside operators and the Gatekeeper to help develop problem-solving skills and improve their ability to write quality maintenance work requests.
- Actively supports Operators in the generation of improvement ideas to enhance performance.
- Provides subject matter expertise in support of improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Human Resources, or a related field or
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or operational environment, with a focus on training, development, or operational excellence
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with learning management systems.
- Understanding of key business value drivers and operational requirements.
- Experience using production and operations data systems.
- Ability to transfer knowledge through hands-on coaching.
- Effective communication skills with a focus on behavioral coaching.
- Demonstrates mentoring and guidance capabilities.
- Ability to facilitate team development in an operational environment.
