At Athens Mold & Machine, we believe in repairing, rebuilding, and improving equipment, not simply replacing it.

Our shop is home to a diverse mix of heavy industrial machinery, including large Vertical Turret Lathes, retrofitted CNC machines, manual machine tools, and modern CNC machining centers. We take pride in extending the life of our equipment through ingenuity, craftsmanship, and deep technical expertise.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior CNC & Heavy Machine Tool Maintenance Technician to join our team and work directly alongside our Maintenance Team Lead, Kyle Thomas.

This position has been created to strengthen our maintenance department and allow greater focus on preventative maintenance, machine rebuilds, and long-term equipment reliability. Our goal is not simply to react to breakdowns, but to systematically improve and extend the life of our production assets.

What You'll Do

Advanced Troubleshooting

· Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and CNC control issues.

· Troubleshoot intermittent machine failures and hard-to-find root causes.

· Perform detailed failure analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.

· Respond to production issues and help minimize equipment downtime.

Machine Tool Maintenance & Repair

· Maintain and repair:

o Large Vertical Turret Lathes (King, Webster & Bennett)

o CNC Lathes

o Mill/Turn Machines

o Multi-Axis Machining Centers

o Manual Machine Tools

o Retrofitted CNC Equipment

· Perform inspections, repairs, and machine restoration projects.

Electrical & Controls Work

· Troubleshoot and repair:

o CNC Controls

o Servo Drives

o Encoders

o Motors

o Electrical Components

o Legacy Relay Logic Systems

· Read and interpret electrical schematics and machine documentation.

Mechanical Rebuilds

· Rebuild and repair:

o Gearboxes

o Spindles

o Hydraulic Systems

o Pneumatic Systems

o Machine Ways

o VTL Tables and Drive Systems

· Perform machine alignments, leveling, and geometry corrections.

Fabrication & Problem Solving

· Manufacture replacement components when parts are obsolete or unavailable.

· Utilize manual machine tools and fabrication equipment to support repairs.

· Develop practical solutions for equipment that no longer has OEM support.

Reliability & Preventative Maintenance

· Assist in developing and executing preventative maintenance programs.

· Help shift maintenance efforts from emergency repairs to planned maintenance.

· Support machine rebuild projects and long-term reliability initiatives.

· Work closely with operations and production teams to improve uptime.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

· 7-10 years of machine tool maintenance experience.

· Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.

· Experience maintaining CNC machine tools in a manufacturing environment.

· Ability to read and understand:

o Mechanical Drawings

o Hydraulic Schematics

o Pneumatic Diagrams

o Electrical Schematics

· Experience with hydraulic, lubrication, and pneumatic systems.

Preferred Qualifications

· Machine tool rebuilding experience.

· Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) experience.

· CNC retrofit experience.

· Servo and encoder troubleshooting.

· PLC troubleshooting experience.

· Precision machine alignment experience.

· Manual machining and fabrication skills.

Schedule

First Shift

· Monday through Thursday

· Four 10-hour shifts

· Three-day weekends every week
