Duties
- Perform clothing alterations and repairs, including hemming, taking in or letting out seams, and resizing garments for a flawless fit
- Use sewing machines, hand sewing techniques, and pressing machines to execute precise garment construction and finishing touches
- Operate pressing machines and press garments to achieve crisp, professional results that meet quality standard
- Manage multiple alteration projects efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and adhering to deadlines
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace with properly functioning sewing equipment and tools
- Assist in fabric selection and garment customization for special orders or bespoke apparel production
Skills
- Proven experience in clothing alterations, garment sewing, and garment construction within a fashion retail environment
- Strong knowledge of fabric materials, stitching techniques, and press operation for various types of clothing including men’s wear tailoring and women’s wear tailoring
- Proficiency with sewing machines, hand sewing tools, and pressing equipment to deliver high-quality finishes
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly about alterations and fabric care
- Ability to perform basic math calculations for measurements, adjustments, and pattern modifications
- Familiarity with fashion retail standards and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting
- Knowledge of clothing fitting principles and garment sizing adjustments
