Mechanical Design Engineer/Aircraft Interior

Position Overview

• We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Interior / Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, modification, integration, and certification of aircraft interiors and structural components. This position will work closely with engineering teams, suppliers, service center personnel, customers, and regulatory organizations to develop engineering solutions supporting aircraft modification and completion programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering documentation supporting aircraft interior and structural modifications, including detail drawings, assembly drawings, installation drawings, specifications, and substantiation reports.
• Develop and revise engineering drawings supporting aircraft floorplan and interior configuration changes.
• Coordinate with external suppliers, internal engineering departments, service center teams, and regulatory organizations regarding the design, installation, integration, and certification of aircraft interior components.
• Research technical specifications and support the selection of aircraft components and materials.
• Coordinate with suppliers to ensure components and installations meet engineering, customer, and certification requirements.
• Support the development of statements of work, technical proposals, and bids for new customer modification requests.
• Assist service center and production personnel with the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of aircraft build, modification, installation, and testing issues.
• Create deviation drawings and engineering dispositions as required to support aircraft modifications and installation activities.
• Collaborate within a cross-functional engineering environment to ensure technical requirements, schedules, and customer expectations are achieved.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with at least five (5) years of relevant experience; OR a minimum of ten (10) years of practical mechanical design experience within the aviation industry.
• Experience developing mechanical or aircraft engineering drawings using AutoCAD and/or CATIA; CATIA experience is preferred.
• Experience supporting aircraft interior, cabin, completion, modification, installation, or related mechanical design activities.
• Working knowledge of applicable aviation regulatory and certification requirements, including FAA, EASA, and/or TCCA regulations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related productivity tools.
• Ability to manage multiple engineering assignments and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Experience

• Aircraft interior or cabin modification and completion programs.
• Business jet, commercial aircraft, or special-mission aircraft modification experience.
• Aircraft floorplan modifications and interior installation design.
• Design and integration of seats, monuments, cabinetry, galleys, lavatories, liners, flooring, furnishings, or other cabin components.
• Experience supporting aircraft completion centers, service centers, or modification facilities.
• CATIA V5 experience.
• Experience supporting certification activities, conformity, or Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) programs.
• Supplier coordination and component selection within an aerospace environment.

Ideal Candidate

• The ideal candidate is a hands-on aircraft design professional with experience supporting interior modifications from initial concept through installation and certification. The successful candidate will be comfortable working directly with engineering, production, suppliers, and service center personnel to resolve technical challenges and deliver practical, certifiable aircraft solutions.
