Cook

Overview

Prepare food and coffee for breakfast service. Cook to order and serve guests, prepare room service trays for appropriate times, clean up and sanitize kitchen after breakfast service has ended. When at full capacity position is assisted by servers to wait tables. During slower months, cooking and serving is required without additional assistance. Prepare and stock kitchen for the following day.

Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare food and coffee for breakfast service, clean and stock kitchen for the following day

• Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices.

• Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience.

• Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.

• Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.

• Portion, arrange, and garnish food

• Check temperature of coolers and record to ensure proper operation of cooling equipment.

• Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods.

• Clean all areas in the kitchen including equipment and floor

• Ensure all dishes are cleaned and properly stored.

• Inspecting Equipment, Structures or Material

• Use knives

• Understand government health, hotel or food service regulations

• Consult with managerial or supervisory personnel

• Read work order, instructions, formulas, or processing charts

• Test food to determine that it is cooked

• Evaluate premises for cleanliness

• Follow recipes

• Perform a variety of food preparation duties other than cooking

• Prepare Coffee

• Determine food portions

• Prepare specialty foods

• Bake breads, rolls, or other baked goods

Qualifications

• Effective communication skills

• Food Production skills

• Ability to read English

• Knowledge of government health, sanitation and food regulations

• Team player
