Mold Maker Apprentice

Position Summary

Individual follows the laid-out plan to process, fabricate, finish fit, shut off, and assemble precision injection molds per the guidance and direction of the mold maker they are working for.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspects all critical areas machined as directed by lead mold maker.
• Learns the fundamentals of CAD/CAM data to efficiently process details and sequences throughout shop.
• Uses hoists, chains and slings to lift, place, and load details into machines.
• Assemble, disassemble, and clean plastic injection molds.
• Setting up and operating machines (i.e. Manual Mills, Lathes, CNC Mills, Surface Grinders, EDM machines).
• Assemble tools and perform final fitting of details using the appropriate tools with direction from lead mold maker.
• Keep work areas clean, maintained, and practice 5-S mentality.
• Responsible for completing and tracking their training records weekly.
• Responsible for the classroom requirements for the State of Ohio Apprenticeship.
• Adheres to the Quality Policy and Core Values of the organization.

Required Competencies, Skills, and Experience

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required.
• Ability to work independently or on a team is required.
• Ability to work safely around machines in operation.
• Apply safe work practices while moving, setting up, and machining work pieces.
• Flexibility with work schedules and rotate shifts is required.

Education and Job Experience Requirements

• Tooling and Machining Certification preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead and bend to the floor.
• Pushing, pulling, and lifting of approx. 10- 50 lbs. at times.
• Utilize hoists to lift and position large details more than 1000 lbs.
• Standing for long periods of time.
• Standard workday is 8 hrs. Extended hrs. may be required.
• Moderate continuous lifting, pushing, pulling.
• Reaching overhead.
• Subject to high noise levels from operating machines.
• Physical hazards from moving and handling equipment and machine parts.
• Breathing fumes, dust, and mist.
• Skin exposure to oils, cutting fluid and multiple steel types. 
• High noise levels from operating machines.
