Position Overview
At Home Design is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Drapery Workroom Sewist/Seamstress to join our team in Rapid City. This on-site role is responsible for the fabrication of high-quality custom drapery and window treatments. The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, works efficiently, and has a strong eye for detail and accuracy. This position is for an experienced professional, preferably with workroom/sewing experience.
- Please note: This is an in-person role at the Rapid City showroom. Remote workers and 1099 applicants should not apply.
Position Responsibilities:
- Fabricate custom drapery, panels, valances, roman shades, and other window treatments from start to finish
- Read and interpret work orders, specifications, and measurements accurately
- Measure, cut, and sew a variety of fabrics, including specialty textiles
- Operate industrial sewing machines and workroom equipment
- Ensure all finished products meet company quality standards and design specifications
- Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient workroom
- Collaborate with interior designers and team members to ensure project accuracy and timelines are met
- Assist with hardware preparation and basic assembly as needed
- Other aligning duties may be assigned
Skills and Qualifications for Position
- Prior sewing experience required (professional or advanced personal experience)
- Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
- Experience in drapery or soft furnishings preferred
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship; precise in measurements and math; you must be able to read a tape measure
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and measurements precisely
- Comfortable working with a variety of fabrics and materials
- Superior time management – organized and capable of meeting deadlines
- Valid drivers license and willingness to adhere to a national background check
Preferred (Not Required):
- Upholstery experience
- Experience with pattern matching and specialty treatments
- Familiarity with workroom processes or interior design industry
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move materials (typically up to 30 lbs)
- Manual dexterity for sewing and handling fabrics
