Job Overview
Astro Kennels is seeking a dedicated, dependable, and energetic Kennel Attendant to join our team and ensure the well-being of all animals in our care. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for pets in our kennel facility. Your enthusiasm for animal care, combined with your ability to handle animals gently and professionally, will help create a positive experience for both pets and their owners. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with animals, develop your pet care skills, and contribute to a compassionate team focused on animal welfare. Shifts are either early morning, 6am to 1:30pm or afternoon into evening 1:30pm to 9:00pm. one or more weekend days are required. This is a physically demanding position that will require you to be on your feet for the entire shift. Working with live animals means that dependability is essential as the pets in our care require consistent and timely care.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for animals including feeding, watering, cleaning kennels, and monitoring health status as well as walking, excercising, and bathing animals.
- Handle dogs and other pets safely using proper animal restraint techniques
- Perform pet grooming tasks such as bathing, brushing, and basic hygiene maintenance. Nail trims and ear cleaning as well.
- Maintain cleanliness in the kennels and surrounding areas by regularly cleaning, and sanitizing kennels, play areas, and equipment.
- Maintain detailed records of animal care activities, behaviors, and any medical or behavioral issues
- Ensure the kennel environment remains clean, organized, and safe by disinfecting surfaces and disposing of waste properly
- Assist with heavy lifting (up to 60 pounds) when necessary to move supplies or large animals safely
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions from pet owners and updating them on their pets’ status when asked.
- Bring boarding dogs to and from the lobby area with pet's belongings to ensure a fast and efficient hand off in the lobby area.
Experience
- Previous kennel or animal care experience preferred but not required. We will do on the job training for this position. Must have a willingness to learn and be able to handle a fast paced envirnment.
- Knowledge of dog training techniques and dog handling skills is advantageous
- Experience in pet grooming or pet sitting enhances your ability to provide comprehensive care
- Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with pet owners and team members
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting and long periods of standing or walking
- Prior experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter is a plus but not mandatory; willingness to learn is essential

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
