Contract to Hire | $30-40/hour

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Scientist I to join our research team supporting protein biochemistry and enzymology programs. This role will contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of experiments focused on protein characterization, enzyme activity, and biochemical assay development. The Scientist I will work collaboratively with a team of scientists to advance research initiatives and support discovery efforts through hypothesis-driven experimentation and rigorous data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine HPLC operations, including system setup, solvent and sample preparation, run execution, data collection, and shutdown procedures.
• Maintain and monitor HPLC instruments, document runs according to SOPs, troubleshoot minor issues, and escalate technical problems when needed.
• Support enzyme activity studies, including time-course experiments, sample preparation, data analysis, labeling, and storage.
• Conduct protein characterization experiments, including SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, UV/Vis protein quantification, buffer preparation, and enzyme kinetics assays.
• Perform plate-based biochemical assays using microplate readers to measure enzyme and protein activity.
• Design and execute experiments, analyze results, and recommend next steps to support research and development projects.
• Contribute to documentation that supports scientific innovation and intellectual property development.
• Stay current with scientific advancements through literature review and collaboration with the research community.
• Work collaboratively with research teams to evaluate protein and enzyme properties and support project goals.
• Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records to ensure reproducibility and proper documentation of research activities.
• Manage multiple experiments and prioritize tasks to meet project timelines.
• Communicate findings clearly through reports, presentations, and team discussions.
• Follow laboratory safety procedures and standard operating practices.
  
  

Qualifications

• B.S. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
• 1–3 years of laboratory or industry experience in biochemical or molecular biology research.
• Hands-on experience with HPLC systems.
• Experience performing protein or enzyme assays and standard biochemical laboratory techniques.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple experiments and produce reliable, reproducible results.
• Experience with protein purification techniques, including tangential flow filtration, ultrafiltration, or chromatography methods such as IEX, HIC, or IMAC is a plus.
• Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as cell disruption, centrifugation, gel electrophoresis, and Western blotting.
