Astrix is seeking an Animal Care Technician to support daily animal care and assist with research activities. This role involves working in a laboratory setting under Biosafety Level 1 and 2 conditions, providing essential support to veterinary and scientific teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care, feeding, and enrichment for animals.
- Clean and maintain animal housing, equipment, and facility areas.
- Monitor animal health and report signs of illness or distress.
- Assist with veterinary treatments and scientific procedures.
- Collect biological samples and assist with post-mortem procedures (e.g., necropsies).
- Maintain accurate records and follow safety, regulatory, and welfare protocols.
- May guide or support junior staff and participate in special projects or committees.
- Comfortable working with animals, including during health checks and post-mortem exams.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and work in varying environmental conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols.
- Willingness to work in a lab environment and follow strict biosecurity measures.
- No known allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust.
