Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize coating formulations that minimize environmental impact while meeting performance standards.
Simulate real-world run conditions to ensure lab-to-line scalability and product consistency.
Troubleshoot issues related to coating performance, converting, and end-use functionality.
Integrate environmentally conscious practices into all aspects of the development process, from material sourcing to end-of-life considerations.
Collaborate with suppliers to identify greener alternatives in addition to traditional coating materials.
Manage SDS documentation and ensure compliance with FDA, environmental regulations, and corporate sustainability goals.
Support field trials and customer collaborations to validate new coating products.
Maintain a deep understanding of paper properties, converting technologies, and how they relate to coated paper performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, or a related technical discipline.
10 years of experience in product development or formulation, preferably in coatings or adjacent materials.
Industry experience in paper, paperboard, or packaging is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated mechanical and chemical aptitude with a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Understanding of sustainability drivers in packaging — recyclability, compostability, renewable content, and compliance.
Familiarity with FDA packaging regulations, SDS management, and product stewardship.
Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.
Willingness to travel for customer trials and external technical support.
