Position Summary
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately and timely processing weekly and biweekly payroll for approximately 200 employees at a manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations and serves as a key partner to HR, Finance, and Operations. The Payroll Specialist will use Workday Payroll as the primary system of record and will support hourly and salaried populations, including shift differentials, overtime, and production-related pay elements.
Key Responsibilities
Required:
The position is fully onsite at a Lead Acid Facility, requiring blood draws every 6 months. The schedule is Monday to Thursday, and Fridays off. 4, 10 hour shifts. Temporary position 4-6 months covering for a LOA.

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $36.00/hr.

Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and biweekly payroll for union and non-union employees in a manufacturing environment
- Maintain and audit employee payroll data in Workday, including new hires, terminations, job changes, and pay adjustments
- Review and validate timekeeping data, including:
- Overtime
- Shift premiums and differentials
- Attendance and production-based pay elements
- Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with:
- FLSA and applicable wage and hour laws
- Federal, state, and local tax requirements
- Garnishments, child support, and levies
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Partner with HR on benefits deductions, leave of absence impacts, and employee data changes
- Coordinate payroll-related audits and provide support during internal and external reviews
- Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and journal entries for Finance
- Support year-end activities including W-2 processing and audits
- Maintain payroll documentation and ensure data confidentiality
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline payroll processes within Workday
Required:
- 2 years of payroll processing experience
- Hands-on experience processing weekly and biweekly payroll
- Workday Payroll experience (core payroll and time integration)
- Strong knowledge of wage and hour laws, overtime rules, and payroll compliance
- High attention to detail and demonstrated accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables preferred)
- Experience supporting a workforce of 150 employees
- Exposure to union payroll or collective bargaining agreements
- Experience partnering with time and attendance systems integrated to Workday
- Manufacturing environment experience with shift work and premiums
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Professional communication and customer service mindset
