The Director of Logistics is responsible for leading all aspects of trucking and transportation operations, including dispatch, routing, fleet utilization, and third-party carrier relationships. Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day trucking operations, including dispatch, scheduling, routing, and equipment utilization.
- Manage, support, and develop drivers, dispatchers, and operational staff.
- Evaluate workload and determine the most efficient method of moving freight (internal fleet, brokerage, or third-party carriers).
- Build, develop, and maintain relationships with third-party carriers and owner-operators.
- Establish and grow a reliable network of owner-operators to support scalable capacity.
- Create structure, accountability, and consistency across transportation operations.
- Monitor and manage financial performance, including cost control and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including DOT, IFTA, and safety requirements.
- Maintain high service levels for both internal and external customers.
- Implement systems, processes, and reporting to support operational visibility and growth.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in transportation strategy and execution.
- Maintain strong relationships that build a solid understanding of operational trucking needs with management team members.
- Collaborate with internal departments to align transportation with overall business needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 3 years experience in management within trucking, logistics, or transportation.
- Proficient understanding of fleet operations, freight brokerage, and third-party carrier models.
- Experience building and managing carrier relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and optimize transportation operations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and cost control.
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with transportation or ERP systems preferred.
