Job Description

The Business Development Representative builds strong relationships with customers, identifies and closes new opportunities, and supports a national territory while collaborating closely with leadership to maximize margins and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Develop and close new business opportunities for customer freight across both brokerage services and asset-based transportation offerings.
- Negotiate contract and spot market pricing for customer freight in collaboration with the VP of Freight and Transportation to maximize profitability.
- Manage and grow a portfolio of existing clients by farming current accounts to identify additional freight opportunities and expand overall business.
- Prospect and generate leads through activities such as cold calling, outreach, and networking to build a strong pipeline of new transportation customers.
- Conduct price negotiations with customers to secure competitive and profitable freight rates while maintaining strong relationships.
- Target and win business from Managed Transportation, Dedicated Contract Trucking, and Transactional Brokerage customers.
- Expand the transportation and freight network by establishing new customer relationships and strengthening partnerships with existing customers.
- Troubleshoot customer issues related to freight and transportation services, providing timely solutions that support long-term relationships.
- Facilitate sustainable business growth by consistently exceeding customer expectations in service, communication, and reliability.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that customer requirements are clearly communicated and executed effectively.
- Proven sales skills with a strong focus on business development in a transportation or logistics environment.
- Experience in account management, including growing existing customer relationships and identifying new opportunities within current accounts.
- Solid understanding of logistics, transportation management, and transportation logistics operations.
- Strong negotiation skills, particularly in contract and spot market freight pricing.
- Ability to prospect, cold call, and generate leads to build a robust sales pipeline.
- Capability to troubleshoot customer freight challenges and provide effective solutions.
- 3 years of experience in the transportation industry in a sales-oriented position.
- 2 years of freight brokerage experience preferred.
- Ability to manage a national territory and work with customers across different regions.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- Background in new business development within logistics or transportation.
- Experience targeting Managed Transportation, Dedicated Contract Trucking, and Transactional Brokerage customers.
- Comfort working closely with senior leadership to align pricing and strategy.
- Strong relationship-building skills with a customer-centric mindset.
- Self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently while meeting growth targets.
