Lower School Teacher (Parental Leave Coverage)

The Sage School is seeking a dedicated, engaging, and adaptable educator for a temporary full-time Lower School teaching position providing parental leave coverage during the 2026–2027 school year. While the teaching assignment will begin in the winter of 2027, there may be an opportunity for the selected candidate to join the community earlier in the school year, allowing time to become familiar with the students, faculty, and school culture before assuming the full-time role and classroom responsibilities in the leave position.

This role offers the opportunity to become an integral member of our collaborative faculty while making a meaningful impact on students. We are especially interested in candidates with early elementary teaching experience, though accomplished elementary educators with experience across grade levels are encouraged to apply. As a growing school, we also welcome applications from exceptional educators who are interested in future opportunities with Sage.

At Sage, Lower School teachers inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning through rigorous, student-centered instruction. Teachers are responsible for mathematics, language arts, reading, writing, social studies, and social-emotional learning while collaborating with specialists in Spanish, computer science, library and research, visual and performing arts, music, and physical education.

Responsibilities

• Implement established curriculum and provide continuity of instruction within a classroom community
• Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction aligned with Sage’s curriculum and educational philosophy.
• Adapt instruction as needed to meet the needs of gifted learners and diverse learning profiles.
• Foster inquiry, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
• Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment grounded in restorative practices.
• Establish clear routines and high expectations that support student growth and independence.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to support continued learning.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student learning, classroom activities, and student progress.
• Partner with grade-level colleagues, specialists, and administrators to support students and ensure continuity throughout the assignment.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, and school events.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
• Experience teaching elementary-aged students and a strong understanding of effective classroom practice
• Knowledge of Orton-Gillingham or other structured, multisensory literacy approaches and experience applying these approaches in the classroom
• Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of gifted learners and diverse learning profiles
• Familiarity with inquiry-based learning, hands-on, experiential teaching methods, and student-centered instruction
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning
• Flexibility, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor
