Since 1995, THF has invested more than $20 million in academic, arts, and extracurricular programs, including Conservatory Theatre Ensemble (CTE,) Patrons of the Arts at Tam High (PATH,) and Tam High United Music Boosters (THUMB) that expand what is possible in public education. As the Foundation enters its next chapter, the Executive Director will play a critical role in strengthening our parent community engagement, deepening partnerships both on and off-campus, and building long-term financial stability to support students and teachers for years to come.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, relationship-driven leader who brings both strategic perspective and strong execution skills. They bring a strong fundraising mindset with the ability to grow and diversify revenue, and are equally comfortable listening and building trust across a diverse set of stakeholders as they are driving results and operational excellence. They will be a visible and engaged presence on campus and in the community, with a deep commitment to public education and student equity. This is a part-time position, estimated at 15 hours per week. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and serves as a non-voting member of the Board. They will work closely with the all-volunteer Board of Directors, a part-time accountant and communications contractor.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership, Strategy, Organizational Alignment
This is a part-time, non-exempt, hybrid position estimated at 15 hours per week. The ED is expected to maintain a regular presence onsite at Tamalpais High School and to communicate their regular schedule to the Board Chair. Salary range is between $55.00 – $70.00/hour, commensurate with experience. Benefits include accrued paid sick leave and eligibility for overtime in accordance with California law. Additional limited paid time off may be provided on a prorated basis. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored health or retirement benefits.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership, Strategy, Organizational Alignment
- Execute THF’s strategic priorities in partnership with the Board, while helping refine long-term direction and growth opportunities.
- Build and maintain key relationships with the school administration, faculty, District and other school organizations (PTSA, Boosters, SchoolsRule, Kiddo) ensuring THF’s mission is accurately represented.
- Provide continuity and institutional knowledge across changing volunteer leadership, including orientation and education to Board members regarding policies, Committee functions, document management, and partnerships within the school and district.
- Work closely with the Board Chair to set meetings and develop agendas for Officer Huddles and Board Meetings, and provide summary Executive Director reports in advance of all Board meetings, which the ED attends (as a non-voting Executive Board Member)
- Ensure transparency and clear communication across all aspects of the organization
- Build and sustain strong, trust-based relationships with:
- School and district leadership
- Teachers and staff
- Parent community
- Local businesses and community partners
- Other education leaders in our District (Redwood and Archie Foundations, Kiddo)
- Increase visibility and understanding of THF’s mission, impact, and value.
- Help expand engagement across the parent and broader business community.
- Represent THF at school and community events as a consistent and approachable ambassador, including Back to School night and Open House, as well as with School Site Council, District Superintendent/CFO, SchoolsRule Marin.
- Explore and help build long-term financial stability including endowment growth and diversification of revenue streams to navigate changing economic conditions.
- Strengthen donor engagement through clear impact storytelling and communication.
- Collaborate with the Annual Donor Campaign Committee to review, refine, and execute activities, coordinate campaign mailings, and track/report on donations and family participation. Ensure proper donor recognition such as thank yous and donor receipts are completed. Assist in identifying, attracting, and maintaining relationships with high-level donors.
- Oversee entry, import, management, analysis and reporting of all donor data in CRM, coordinating closely with the accountant and Treasurer.
- Oversee the Business Partner program including activities, mailings and tracking, working closely with the Business Partner Committee Chairs. Build and maintain long term relationships with the Business Community, helping to identify new prospects when possible.
- Identify and apply for grant funding opportunities.
- Support additional fundraising activities as needed (i.e. the annual Bricks Campaign, various “shop and give” programs, and high-level donor appreciation events.)
- Partner with Communications Chair(s) to ensure consistent, compelling messaging across all channels about THF’s mission, impact, and funding priorities.
- Coordinate with contractors and volunteers to maintain the website and manage a regular social media schedule to raise the profile of THF’s work and ensure fulfillment of donor benefits.
- Elevate storytelling that highlights student and teacher impact.
- Improve transparency about how funds are raised, allocated and the impact they have for students.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, organization, and compliance.
- Work closely with the THF Accountant and Treasurer, assisting in the development of the annual budget, financial tracking and reporting. .
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and streamlined processes.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations.
- Assist the Grants Review Committee (GRC) in promoting the grants process with faculty and staff, ensuring accessibility and clarity of the online system for teachers and staff.
- Support the GRC by reviewing initial grant requests for alignment with THF mission, school priorities and student needs. Help the committee identify alternate first line sources of funding.
- Partner with the Grants Evaluation Chair(s) to review and report on the impact of the grants completed to the Board, and communicate the impact of grants to the broader community.
- 3-5 years of nonprofit experience required. Preference for experience with all-volunteer boards and strong understanding of public education school districts and public / private partnerships.
- Minimum 2 years of fundraising experience including solicitation, stewardship, and increasing participation across diverse audiences (Individual donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners).
- Volunteer board management. Experience working with all-volunteer boards and supporting effective governance. Ability to support complex processes with multiple stakeholders while remaining objective and respectful of complex dynamics.
- Community relationship building and collaboration. Proven ability to build trust, navigate complex stakeholder environments, and foster collaboration. Ability to be transparent in communications while understanding the sensitivities of the environment.
- Operational and organizational management. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to follow through and deliver results.
- Communication skills. Clear, transparent, and compelling communicator across multiple audiences.
- Technical skills. Familiarity with Google Workspace and donor CRM systems (DonorBox preferred). Comfort with video conferencing and calendaring for large groups.
