Development Director

Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas Inc. - Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Job Summary

The Development Director leads fundraising and development activities that support AAAPP’s mission and services for older adults in Pasco and Pinellas counties. Reporting to the Executive Director, the position develops and implements the annual development plan, cultivates donors and community partners, pursues grants and sponsorships, and coordinates fundraising events and public communications. The Director works independently and collaborates with agency leadership, the Board’s Fundraising Workgroup, the Advisory Council, staff, and volunteers.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Development strategy. Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual development plan aligned with AAAPP’s strategic priorities. Establish fundraising goals, timelines, donor engagement activities, and an operating budget with the Executive Director. Plan capital or other special campaigns when authorized.
  • Donor development. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations. Manage a prospect portfolio and document contacts, proposals, commitments, and next steps. Build annual giving, recurring gifts, donor upgrades, and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Grant development. Oversees a contracted grant writer who researches private foundation and government grant opportunities in coordination with program and finance leaders. Review proposals, secure internal approvals, maintain a submission and reporting calendar, and ensure program and fiscal staff prepare and submit funder reports and grant commitments.
  • Campaigns and events. Plan and execute appeals, digital campaigns, and fundraising events. Including the agency’s signature event, Annual Luncheon. Coordinate sponsorships, vendors, logistics, staff support, and volunteers within approved budgets. Evaluate gross revenue, direct expenses, net proceeds, and results after each campaign or event.
  • Stewardship. Maintain a donor recognition and stewardship program. Respond promptly to donor inquiries, coordinate acknowledgments with Finance, communicate the impact of gifts, and respect donor preferences and restrictions.
  • Communications and outreach. Coordinate fundraising communications, quarterly newsletters, social media, promotional materials, and media outreach. Maintain consistent messaging and branding; obtain approvals and appropriate permissions for client stories, photographs, and other content.
  • Records and reporting. Maintain accurate, secure donor and prospect records in the agency’s donor management system, currently Bloomerang. Reconcile fundraising records with Finance and report results, donor retention, pipeline progress, grant activity, and budget variances to the Executive Director and designated groups.
  • Collaboration and continuity. Support the Board’s Fundraising Workgroup and Advisory Council with materials and follow-up. Guide volunteers and project participants without direct staff supervision. Maintain procedures, campaign calendars, grant deadlines, and relationship transition notes to support continuity during absences or turnover.
  • Responsible administration. Manage the approved development budget and follow agency policies, gift acceptance procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable fundraising requirements. Perform other related duties assigned by the Executive Director.

Education

  • Five to seven years of progressively responsible nonprofit fundraising or development experience, including planning and independently managing fundraising activities.
  • Demonstrated experience helping raise at least $300,000 annually, with the candidate’s individual contribution, campaign context, and results clearly documented. This experience benchmark is not the position’s annual fundraising target.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered. Specialized fundraising training and Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification are preferred.

Skills/Qualifications
