Job Description
Supports completion of pre-admission testing by performing venipuncture for bloodwork, electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, height and weight for each patient as ordered by the provider.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Performs venipuncture in a safe environment, including positive patient
- Enters Computerized Laboratory Order Entry in Softlab as ordered by the
- Transcribes orders as needed into Epic system from paper forms.
- Performs correct test as ordered by the provider. Uses laboratory references to
utilized.
- Contacts provider for prescription or order clarification as needed.
- Maintains asepsis and disposes of sharps properly.
- Properly labels tubes and promptly sends tubes to the OP Lab for processing.
- Performs electrocardiogram (EKG) as ordered by provider.
- Performs vital signs including, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, oxygen
- Communicates abnormal EKG/vital signs to RN.
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
- Phlebotomy certification highly preferred
- 3-5 years of experience as a phlebotomist or relevant area preferred
