Deckhands play a vital role in preparing barges and equipment for loading and unloading cargo in a marine environment. Responsibilities
- Handle lines and cables to secure and release crane rigs to and from barges and vessels
- Inspect cables and rigging components on the crane deck for safety and functionality
- Perform minor maintenance on equipment and machinery as needed
- Provide clear directional signals to crane operators during operations
- Lubricate crane buckets to ensure smooth operation
- Assist in drafting barges and managing barge positioning
- Open and close barge covers as required
- Conduct general rigging and shifting of barges
- Maintain cleanliness and uphold safety standards on decks, barges, and ship holds
- Fuel equipment and cranes as necessary
- Perform general upkeep and cleaning of the crane rig
- Report all incidents promptly following company protocols
- Support and participate in company safety initiatives
