What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intramural Official position at Associated Students?
GENERAL STATEMENT
Referees observe team matches, identify rule violations, and enforce them. Plays a critical role in ensuring smooth flow of match play and maintaining the pace of the event. Positions are physically challenging, as each could require continuous running as well as the ability to lift 40 pounds or more.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Representsthe CSULB Intramural and Recreational Sports Program within their stated goals andobjectives.
- Possess technical and detailed knowledge of game rules and officiating mechanics and techniques. Understand,interpretand enforce all game rules and programpolicypertaining togame play.
- Participate in deliberationsregardingcontested calls. Prevent,mediateand resolve protests and conflicts that may arise during play.
- Ensure proper completion of all scoring documents. Provide written reports on all incidents, protests, ejections, etc. no matter how minor.
- Ensure sportsmanship of all participants and spectators.
- Assistwith on-site safety procedures for Intramural sports events. Visually inspect the playing area to ensure a safe environment.
- Perform emergency procedures as qualified.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Currently enrolled in 6 or more units and making satisfactory progress in an undergraduate/graduate program at CSULB.
Knowledge and Abilities
Successful candidate will possess thorough knowledge of the competition game and rules of play (must pass certification test). Ability to take charge and be assertive, but tactful as well as connect well with students. Candidate must have attention to detail, the ability to move about the field and stand for long periods of time. Must possess strong assessment skills, communication, diplomacy skills and be able to work in a diverse environment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within30 daysof employment.
