Position Summary
The Materials Supervisor / Master Scheduler is responsible for leading the planning, scheduling, and control of materials and production flow to support customer demand and operational excellence. This role ensures alignment between customer orders, production capacity, inventory strategy, and supplier performance.
The position plays a critical role in supporting on-time delivery, inventory optimization, and lean material flow while enabling a stable and efficient production schedule. The Materials Supervisor / Master Scheduler partners closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Finance to drive performance through data, discipline, and continuous improvement.
This role is essential in supporting a Lean Manufacturing and Factory Excellence environment focused on eliminating waste, improving flow, and maximizing customer service.

Key Accountabilities
Production Planning & Master Scheduling
- Develop and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) based on customer demand, forecasts, and production capacity.
- Balance demand, inventory levels, and manufacturing capacity to create a stable and achievable production schedule.
- Ensure production sequencing supports optimal line utilization, minimal changeovers, and efficient material flow.
- Adjust schedules proactively to respond to demand changes, supply disruptions, or operational constraints.
- Drive schedule adherence and production stability across manufacturing operations.
- Oversee planning and control of raw materials, components, and finished goods inventory.
- Ensure material availability supports the master schedule and customer delivery requirements.
- Maintain appropriate inventory strategies (safety stock, reorder points, kanban, pull systems) to balance service and working capital.
- Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to manage material lead times and delivery performance.
- Identify and drive improvements to reduce excess, obsolete inventory, and material shortages.
- Support implementation of lean material flow principles, including:
- Pull systems
- Kanban replenishment
- Supermarkets
- Visual material management
- Participate in kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives related to supply chain performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve planning accuracy, inventory turns, and material availability.
- Support plant initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving flow, and increasing productivity.
- Serve as the key link between Sales, Customer Service, Operations, Distribution, Procurement, and Logistics.
- Support Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) and demand planning processes.
- Communicate production schedule changes and supply risks to appropriate stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment between customer priorities and plant operational capabilities.
- Lead and develop the materials planning and scheduling team.
- Establish clear expectations for planning discipline, system accuracy, and schedule execution.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure proper training and utilization of ERP/MRP systems and planning tools.
- Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data integrity, including:
- Bills of material
- Lead times
- Planning parameters
- Inventory records
- Use data analytics to support capacity planning, demand variability analysis, and inventory optimization.
- Provide reporting and analysis to support plant performance reviews and operational decision-making.

- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Operations Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 5--8 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or materials management in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc.).
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
