What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Development Estimator position at Associated Fire Protection?
Overview
At AFP, we’re continuing to grow, and with that growth, we’re expanding our Preconstruction team.
We’re looking for someone with a strong background in fire sprinkler systems—including design experience (NICET Level II or equivalent)—along with exposure to estimating and sales, who’s ready to take the next step in their career by playing a more active role in shaping projects from the front end. This is not a traditional estimating-only role, it’s an opportunity to be a key part of how we serve our clients by combining preliminary design, estimating, and project development to help bring projects to life from the very beginning.
If you have a well-rounded background in fire sprinkler systems and are looking to expand your role beyond design or estimating, this is a unique opportunity to grow your influence, contribute to project development, and help bring new work into the company.
What You’ll Do
- Develop preliminary sprinkler layouts to support budgeting and design-assist efforts
- Prepare estimates and proposals for new construction and renovation projects
- Collaborate with GCs, developers, and partners during early project planning
- Support design-build and design-assist opportunities
- Contribute to project development efforts and pursuit of new opportunities
What We're Looking For
- Strong background in fire sprinkler system design
- NICET Level II (preferred) or equivalent years of experience
- Solid understanding of NFPA codes and system applications
- Experience or interest in estimating, preconstruction, and client interaction
- Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail
Why This Role
- Be involved early in projects, contributing to planning and development efforts
- Be part of a team that values relationships, quality, and long-term partnerships
- Opportunity to grow into a Preconstruction / Project Development / Sales leadership role
- Join a company that prioritizes its people, culture, and commitment to excellence
Why AFP

- A rare opportunity to build and lead a new division within an established company.
