The operator supports the sustainment of mission critical facilities and infrastructure at Kirtland AFB (KAFB) to ensure our customers’ continued mission success.
Job Summary
- The DDC Operator serves as the primary monitor and initial respondent for the installation’s Energy Management and Control Systems (EMCS), ensuring optimal HVAC performance, facility environmental connectivity, and energy efficiency across mission-critical facilities.
- This position performs complete energy management services in support of the Base Energy Manager under the KAFB Engineering Operations Services (KEOS) contract.
- Continuously observe DDC and EMCS front-end graphical user interfaces to ensure HVAC network connectivity and facility environmental stability across the installation.
- Acknowledge, triage, and respond to critical system alarms (e.g., temperature deviations, pressure drops, communication losses) in accordance with installation protocols.
- Coordinate closely with military and civilian HVAC technicians, generating work orders and dispatching physical repair teams based on DDC telemetry.
- Maintain detailed digital shift logs of system events, operator overrides, equipment downtime, and energy consumption metrics for facility managers and command staff.
- Adhere to strict cybersecurity guidelines regarding Operational Technology (OT) networks, ensuring unauthorized devices or connectivity drops are reported to the installation cyber assurance team.
- Minimum education level of high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least 2-3 years of proven experience operating building automation systems (BAS), EMCS, or DDC systems in a large commercial, industrial, or military environment.
- Possess competent and effective computer skills to include using Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Must have proficient English oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management, and customers.
- Must be capable of working with customers and employees in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
- Must be a US citizen and currently possess or be able to obtain/maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance.
- Must possess and maintain a valid US driver's license.
- Be able to pass a drug screen.
- Be committed to providing for and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Associate degree in HVAC/R Technology, Energy Management, Building Automation, or a related technical discipline.
- Deep understanding of mechanical HVAC processes, thermodynamics, BACnet/LonWorks communication protocols, and control sequence logic.
- Tridium Niagara (N4) Certification, OEM-specific DDC training (e.g., Johnson Controls Metasys, Automated Logic WebCTRL, Honeywell), and EPA Section 608 Universal Certification are strongly recommended.
- Three years’ experience working energy programs at a military installation, preferably a US Air Force base.
