Position Overview

Aspire Senior Living Roaring River is seeking a compassionate and skilled Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our Therapy team.

The Speech-Language Pathologist provides skilled therapy services to residents experiencing speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders. Through individualized assessment and treatment, the SLP helps residents improve communication, promote safer swallowing, maximize independence, and enhance their overall quality of life.

Working as part of our interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, the SLP partners with Nursing, Therapy, Dietary, physicians, residents, and families to develop meaningful goals and achieve positive resident outcomes.

What You'll Do

Evaluation & Assessment

  • Evaluate residents' speech, language, cognition, communication, voice, and swallowing abilities.

  • Utilize appropriate standardized assessments, clinical observations, resident history, and clinical judgment.

  • Assess expressive and receptive language, articulation, voice, fluency, and cognitive-communication skills as appropriate.

  • Evaluate swallowing function, oral-motor abilities, and potential aspiration risk.

  • Identify functional limitations and develop appropriate therapy recommendations.

  • Establish measurable, resident-centered goals based on evaluation findings and individual needs.

Individualized Treatment & Rehabilitation

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans designed to maximize resident function and independence.

  • Provide evidence-based interventions for speech, language, voice, fluency, and cognitive-communication disorders.

  • Address cognitive skills such as memory, attention, problem-solving, sequencing, safety awareness, and executive functioning.

  • Incorporate meaningful and functional activities into therapy sessions.

  • Modify treatment approaches based on resident progress, tolerance, and clinical needs.

  • Educate residents and families on strategies that can support progress outside of therapy sessions.

Dysphagia & Swallowing Management

  • Evaluate and treat residents experiencing swallowing difficulties and dysphagia.

  • Develop individualized swallowing treatment plans and compensatory strategies.

  • Recommend appropriate diet textures, liquid consistencies, positioning, and swallowing precautions within the SLP's scope of practice.

  • Collaborate closely with Nursing and Dietary to promote safe and effective mealtime practices.

  • Provide education to residents, families, and employees regarding dysphagia, aspiration precautions, and safe swallowing strategies.

  • Recommend instrumental swallowing assessments, such as FEES or Modified Barium Swallow/VFSS, when clinically appropriate and coordinate or perform them when appropriately trained, credentialed, and permitted.

Cognitive-Communication Therapy

  • Provide skilled interventions for residents experiencing cognitive-communication changes related to neurological conditions, illness, injury, or age-related conditions.

  • Develop strategies to improve memory, attention, organization, problem-solving, and functional communication.

  • Recommend compensatory strategies, communication aids, or assistive technology when appropriate.

  • Work with residents to improve skills necessary for greater safety and independence in daily activities.

  • Collaborate with Occupational and Physical Therapy to support interdisciplinary rehabilitation goals.

Documentation & Progress Monitoring

  • Complete accurate and timely evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge documentation.

  • Monitor resident response to therapy and progress toward established goals.

  • Update treatment plans and recommendations based on clinical findings and resident progress.

  • Maintain documentation according to professional, regulatory, payer, and facility requirements.

  • Communicate significant changes in resident condition or performance to appropriate interdisciplinary team members.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Dietary, physicians, Social Services, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences and resident care planning as appropriate.

  • Communicate therapy goals, progress, recommendations, and discharge needs with the care team.

  • Provide education and training to employees regarding communication disorders, cognitive strategies, swallowing precautions, and resident-specific recommendations.

  • Partner with residents and families to promote continuity and carryover of therapy strategies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program required.

  • Current Missouri state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist required.

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred, as applicable.

  • 1–3 years of clinical experience preferred, particularly in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, senior living, or geriatrics.

  • Clinical Fellows may be considered based on community needs, supervision availability, and applicable licensure requirements.

  • Experience evaluating and treating dysphagia and swallowing disorders preferred.

  • Knowledge of cognitive-communication therapy and neurological conditions affecting speech, language, cognition, and swallowing.

  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and treatment-planning abilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals.

  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.

  • Experience with electronic medical records and therapy documentation systems preferred.

  • Compassionate and encouraging approach to rehabilitation.

  • Commitment to resident dignity, autonomy, safety, and person-centered care.
