The Pavement Research Engineer in the Heritage Research Group (HRG)uses their advanced knowledge in civil engineering to conduct research to develop, improve and evaluate the performance of asphalt mixtures and binders. The individual in this role is adept at developing research hypotheses, designing experiments to test them, and making data driven decisions on research direction. The candidate is highly creative, acts with integrity to become a trusted partner with business stakeholders and works collaboratively with them to solve big problems and turn them into greater opportunities.. ***This position is based on-site in Indianapolis, IN. Qualified candidates must currently reside or be willing to relocate within 75-miles of Indianapolis, IN.*** Essential Functions Lead Research Initiatives: Drive pavement, binder, and mixture-related research initiatives within the Heritage Research Group. Innovate and Design: Develop, design, and deliver innovative ideas related to pavement research. Independently select or suggest proper instrumentation or tools for analysis and visualization of data. Testing and Experimentation: Implement new testing capabilities and conduct experiments with a focus on repeatability and reproducibility. Modify product and/or process development approaches within the area of expertise and suggest improvements beyond it. Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze data and draw relevant conclusions from experiments. Generate internal and external technical reports, providing actionable insights. Sample Collection and Preparation: Collect samples of paving materials from existing roads, quarries, and plants for evaluation. Use a variety of heavy duty saws and drills to effectively prepare test specimens. Material Testing: Conduct material testing related to pavement research and complete associated data analysis. Customer Engagement: Provide technical support to customers and agencies. Be viewed as a trusted partner and represent HRG within the industry. Communication and Presentations: Develop capability to deliver technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders on various topics. Share insights and guide others in addressing customer requests. Safety and Compliance: Consistently follow all safety protocols and guidelines, handling chemicals, materials, and supplies properly, and comply with regulatory and legal requirements. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills. Education Qualifications Required Bachelor's Degree BS degree (Civil Engineering is preferred) plus 7-10 years’ experience or PhD with 2-5 years’ experience Experience Qualifications BS degree (Civil Engineering is preferred) plus 7-10 years’ experience or PhD with 2-5 years’ experience Skills and Abilities Experience in testing of asphalt mixtures and related materials. Knowledge of bituminous mixtures and pavement design. Excellent organization and project management skills. High degree of both emotional and intellectual maturity. Independent, innovative, confident thinker with a comfort level in goal oriented tasks. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong relationship skills and commitment to continuous improvement. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects. Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office software.
