Asphalt Patching Crew Lead Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Asphalt Patching Crew Lead to oversee daily operations of a small asphalt patching crew. The Crew Lead is responsible for completing asphalt repair, patching, and pothole work safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards. This is a hands-on leadership role that involves operating equipment, managing crew members, coordinating materials, and ensuring each job is completed on time and within scope.

Key Responsibilities:

Crew Leadership & Planning:

  • Lead and work alongside the crew in completing asphalt patching, pothole repair, and small paving projects.
  • Plan daily job activities, assign tasks, and ensure proper use of labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Conduct safety meetings and enforce company safety policies and best practices.
  • Communicate daily with the operations manager regarding job progress, needs, and any site challenges.

Field Operations:

  • Perform and oversee all phases of asphalt patching including cutting, removal, compaction, and paving.
  • Operate and oversee use of equipment such as skid steers, rollers, plate compactors, saws, and dump trucks.
  • Ensure proper base preparation, compaction, and finish quality.
  • Verify materials and mix types are used according to specifications.
  • Set up and maintain a safe and organized work zone including signage, cones, and traffic control when required.

Quality Control & Efficiency:

  • Inspect completed work for proper thickness, compaction, smoothness, and cleanliness.
  • Minimize waste and downtime while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained, and properly stored after each job.

Team Development & Communication:

  • Train and mentor crew members in patching techniques, safety, and equipment operation.
  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  • Report crew performance and any issues to management.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in asphalt patching, paving, or related work.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a small crew effectively.
  • Strong understanding of asphalt repair processes, materials, and compaction techniques.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as skid steers, rollers, and saws.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (CDL preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, site plans, and measurements.
  • Must be physically fit and able to work in outdoor conditions for extended periods.
  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and professional in appearance and communication.

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Requires lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods.
  • May involve early mornings, long days, and occasional weekends during peak season.

Pay: $32.00 - $44.00 per hour
