Project Controls Specialist
Location: Wallingford, CT
Job Type: Long-Term Contract
Schedule: Full-Time
Our client is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to support large-scale engineering and construction projects through effective planning, scheduling, cost control, and reporting. This role will work closely with the project management team to ensure project deliverables are executed on schedule and within budget while maintaining strong project control processes and reporting accuracy.
The ideal candidate brings experience supporting engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects and demonstrates strong analytical, scheduling, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Lead project controls processes in collaboration with internal project management teams
- Set up and maintain projects within Enterprise Planning & Controls software
- Analyze project data, review logs, and generate reporting metrics
- Develop and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
- Prepare and maintain:
- Project schedules
- Cost reports
- Cash flow forecasts
- Progress and performance reports
- Support engineering, procurement, and construction planning and logistics
- Serve as a technical point of contact for project controls inquiries
- Review and approve purchase orders and subcontracts for proper coding
- Document and manage updates to cost forecasts and reporting
- Interface with Project Management and Accounting teams to review costs and contingency usage
- Support internal and external audit activities
- Review prime contract and subcontract change orders
- Develop and present cash flow analyses
- Build and maintain schedules at multiple levels of detail
- Apply and validate schedule logic ties and monitor resource loading
- Support Interactive Project Planning Meetings (IPPM)
- Generate schedule reports and determine appropriate reporting formats
- Analyze schedule performance using Critical Path Method (CPM)
- Perform schedule "what-if” scenario analysis
- Develop and maintain earned value management (EVM) systems
- Validate progress measurement and maintain progress curves
- Perform material takeoffs and quality checks on project controls deliverables
- Conduct field audits to verify reporting accuracy and processes
- Assist with project forensic analysis as needed
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, and at least 3 years of direct project controls experience, OR
- Equivalent applicable experience in lieu of degree
- Experience supporting engineering or construction projects
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Ability to obtain OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification
- Experience with Oracle Primavera P6
- Experience with EPC project environments
- Knowledge of earned value management and cost forecasting methodologies
