Fire Alarm Designer
Location: Tampa, FL (Remote Eligible)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Work Arrangement: 100% Remote (Must reside within 50 miles of a company office)
We are seeking a Fire Alarm Designer for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting mission-critical, commercial, and industrial facility projects. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams on life safety and fire alarm system designs.
The ideal candidate will have experience designing fire alarm and life safety systems using Revit and AutoCAD, with a strong understanding of applicable fire and building codes. This role will support projects from initial concept through construction documentation and coordination.
Key Responsibilities- Design fire alarm and life safety systems for commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities.
- Develop detailed construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and supporting documentation.
- Create and maintain BIM models utilizing Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
- Coordinate designs with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Produce fire alarm layouts, riser diagrams, device placement plans, and system network diagrams.
- Perform system calculations and equipment sizing in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Support clash detection and model coordination efforts within BIM environments.
- Review vendor submittals and equipment selections to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Assist in developing code-compliant life safety and fire protection solutions.
- Manage multiple assignments while maintaining project schedules and quality standards.
- Minimum 4 years of fire alarm or life safety systems design experience.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
- Experience producing construction documents and BIM-based designs.
- Knowledge of fire alarm systems, detection systems, and related manufacturer equipment.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam Revu.
- Understanding of construction documentation and industry design standards.
- Strong communication, organization, and coordination skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Knowledge of:
- NFPA 72 – National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code
- NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code
- International Building Code (IBC)
- International Fire Code (IFC)
- NFPA 70 (NEC)
- NFPA 13, NFPA 75, NFPA 76, and NFPA 2001
- Experience with VESDA systems and smoke detection technologies.
- Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection workflows.
- Data center, mission-critical, healthcare, or industrial facility design experience.
- Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Effective multitasking and project prioritization skills.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work across multiple disciplines.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
