Position Title: Middle School Math Teacher
Department: Aspen Middle School
Reports to: Middle School Principal
Classification: Certified Full-time Exempt
Contract Period: 9 Month (185 days with some variance depending on the year)
Salary Range: Certified Salary Schedule
-For the 2026–2027 academic year, all new hires are eligible for a $1,500.00 signing bonus. Please note that this recruitment incentive will be prorated based on the individual’s FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) status.-

I: Position Summary
This position will focus upon student growth and achievement in the areas of 5th Grade
mathematics, science, and reading (math focus). This teacher will create a supportive, positive class environment, establishing rapport with students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed as a solid foundation for 5th grade education.
II: Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate learning for all students using a variety of instructional methods, integrating, and utilizing technology, to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, encourage exploration of ideas, and develop leadership qualities.
- Reflect on teaching practices, analyze student learning, development, and growth and apply what is learned to improve instruction.
- Manages oneself (is organized, prepared, and punctual; manages resources; meets deadlines; follows through on commitments; demonstrates appropriate physical appearance relative to job and environmental expectations) in a manner that enhances the image of public education.
- Acts consistently in ways that directly support the missions of the schools and District.
- Uses strong verbal communication and listening skills;
- Develops and maintains rapport and effective relationships with adolescents and adults contacted in carrying out duties and responsibilities by using courtesy, diplomacy, collaboration, cooperation, support, and professional conduct;

- Ensures full attendance on all contracted workdays as outlined in the employment agreement, including arriving on time and remaining for the entire contracted day.
- Be present and actively engaged during the scheduled workdays according to the school’s academic calendar, observing holidays, breaks, and scheduled professional development days as appropriate.
- Arrive on time for all scheduled workdays and meetings, including the beginning of school, lunch breaks, and any special assignments, ensuring minimal disruption to the academic schedule.
- Notify the appropriate school personnel in advance for any anticipated absences, including following district procedures for requesting leave, and provide documentation when necessary.
- In the event of an absence, ensure that appropriate substitute plans are prepared and submitted in accordance with school policy, facilitating a smooth transition for students.
- Other duties as assigned or necessary.
III: Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate for this position will:
- Demonstrate expertise in Colorado Academic Standards/Common Core Standards for elementary math education, including awareness of the ways learning takes place and the appropriate levels of cognitive, social, and emotional development of adolescents;
- Establish support, inspiration, and respect with a diverse population of students, developing a classroom learning environment in which each child has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and other children;
- Facilitate learning for all students using a variety of instructional methods, integrating and utilizing technology, to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, encourage exploration of ideas, and develop leadership qualities;
- Reflect on teaching practices, analyzing student work, learning, development, and growth and apply what is learned to improve instruction;
- Demonstrate leadership, advocating for the school and students and exhibit high ethical standards;
- Take responsibility for student academic growth using a variety of formative assessments and ongoing improvement of instructional practice;
- Displays a willingness to learn new information;
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for collaboration, using MTSS framework with a team of administrators, teachers, and support staff; and
- Communicate effectively and interact well with parents and other community members.
IV: Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree
- Possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Teaching License in Middle School Education within the first 3 months of hire.
V: Preferred Qualifications
- CDE Secondary or Middle School Math endorsement
- Master's degree
- Previous experience teaching Math in Middle School
- Experience with IB Programme Standards and Practices including units of inquiry curriculum development, instruction and assessment.
- Spanish Bilingual
VI: Work Environment
- The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, sitting standing walking, and significant fine motor skills. The job is performed in a generally clean and comfortable environment.
VII: Essential Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs., bending, squatting, standing, reaching, sitting, walking, and stooping, occasional climbing, and repetitive motion
