A full-time Staff Accountant position is available in Commerce Township, Michigan. A staff accountant is a crucial member of the accounting department in an organization. Their primary responsibility is to support the financial operations of the company by performing various accounting tasks.
Essential Functions:
- Record day-to-day financial transactions accurately, which may include data entry, journal entries, and ledger maintenance.
- Assist in preparing financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring that these reports comply with accounting standards and regulations.
- Performing bank reconciliations, cash and credit card reconciliations, gift cards and 3rd party delivery transactions
- Reconcile financial accounts, ensuring that there are no discrepancies between the company's records and bank statements, vendor invoices, and customer payments.
- Assist with controlling and monitoring expenses by verifying and analyzing expense reports and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Contributing to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.
- Assist with conducting financial analysis and provide insights to help management make informed business decisions, such as cost-benefit analysis and budget variance analysis.
- Assist during external or internal audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations to auditors.
- Ensure that financial records and processes comply with accounting standards and regulations.
- Investigate and document discrepancies.
- Assisting the Controller as needed
- Other general accounting schedules and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field required.
- 3 years of accounting experience required.
- Experience with QuickBooks (desktop and online) is preferred by not required.
- Accounting Software experience is required.
- Experience in Excel is required for data entry, analysis, and reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of GAAP and accounting standards
- Strong analytical skills are essential for understanding and interpreting financial data.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, organization, detail-oriented, problem-solving, and time management skills are critical in accounting.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines is crucial.
- Uphold high ethical standards when handling sensitive financial information.
- Good communication skills are needed to work with colleagues, auditors, and management, as well as to explain financial information to non-finance professionals.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with employees and management to maximize problem solving.
