Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Engineering Execution
- Lead the end-to-end development of mechanical products—from initial concept through tooling, testing, and release.
- Design durable electro-mechanical components such as housings, enclosures, connectors, and brackets, with a focus on molded and overmolded parts.
- Translate product requirements into efficient, reliable designs using sound mechanical principles and modern CAD tools.
- Create and maintain high-quality 3D models, drawings, and documentation using PTC Creo or similar platforms.
- Validate designs through tolerance studies, GD&T, and FEA to ensure reliability in the field.
- Take ownership of design programs, setting technical direction, priorities, and timelines to meet milestones.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams to ensure the right balance of performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Partner with account managers to clarify requirements and develop practical solutions that meet real-world needs.
- Coordinate with toolmakers and suppliers to ensure smooth transitions from prototype to production, driving DFM improvements along the way.
- Support production ramp-up by reviewing parts, validating dimensions, and assisting with PPAP and inspection processes.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise in production or from the field—analyzing root causes and implementing long-term fixes.
- Develop clear and practical assembly guides and process documentation to support manufacturing teams.
- Bring forward fresh design ideas that improve performance, reduce complexity, or streamline production.
- Explore new materials, processes, and design techniques that enhance product life and reduce cost.
- Encourage a culture of continuous improvement—refining standards, sharing best practices, and keeping innovation at the forefront.
- Provide direction and feedback to junior engineers and design staff.
- Help raise the bar for design quality by reviewing models, drawings, and documentation.
- Contribute to refining internal processes—improving how designs are released, validated, and supported over time.
Education & Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- At least five years of hands-on product design experience—ideally within automotive, off-road, or industrial equipment environments. A background working on electro-mechanical systems or molded plastic components is a strong plus.
- Proficient in PTC Creo (preferred) or SolidWorks, with a solid foundation in 3D modeling, detailing, and documentation.
- Strong grasp of injection molding, DFM/DFA, and GD&T principles, paired with practical experience moving designs from concept to production.
- Skilled at mechanical analysis, including tolerance studies, FEA, and other validation tools to ensure structural soundness.
- Working familiarity with manufacturing and quality processes like PPAP, FMEA, and ECN, along with exposure to prototype and production release cycles.
- Analytical thinker who balances creativity with disciplined engineering judgment.
- Highly self-directed—able to prioritize, communicate effectively, and see projects through to completion.
- Collaborates well across disciplines and thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced setting.
- Prior work in small to mid-size manufacturing companies is preferred. Must be able to adaptable and able to pivot when required.
