General Summary
The Cath Lab RN provides comprehensive direct and indirect patient care by applying sound nursing principles, procedures, and practices to patients of all ages. The Cath Lab RN will demonstrate competency in addressing the behavioral, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the population served. This position is dedicated to the philosophy of Patients First and routinely handles Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of its responsibilities.
As a professional member of the Cardiac Cath Lab, the Registered Nurse delivers care to adult cardiac patients using the nursing process during screening, circulating, and monitoring activities under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. The role supports departmental, hospital, and professional objectives and functions primarily in a peri-procedural capacity for patients undergoing cardiac and interventional procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for procedures including, but not limited to:
- Left and right heart catheterizations
- Permanent/temporary pacemaker insertion
- ICD implantation
- IVC filter placement
- Generator changes
- Peripheral angiography (with or without intervention)
- Interventional radiology procedures
- Initiate peripheral IVs and, as part of the Vascular Access Team, insert midlines and PICC lines.
- Remove arterial sheaths and assist with emergency insertion and short-term care of intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP).
- Support Cardiac Rehab and Cardiac Services as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
