Successful completion of a recognized Sterile Processing training program. Satisfactory completion of a medical terminology course. Knowledge of all sterilization processes and techniques. In-depth knowledge of decontamination and processing for basic, standard and complex instrumentation also required. Must be able to interpret and comprehend complex technical instructions related to equipment, materials, chemicals, government regulations and Joint Commission requirements. Basic computer skills sufficient to maintain order entry, basic data collection and tracking of equipment essential.

Required Physical and Environmental Demands

Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting, stooping and reaching for long periods of time; ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a continual basis; ability to push, pull and navigate carts weighing up to 200 pounds; and manual dexterity sufficient to perform the basic functions of the job; exposure to environments of bacterial and viral contamination, and possible exposure to sterilization gases.

Under the direction of the EVS Director, assumes responsibility for overseeing the activities of the Sterile Processing division. Performs and serves as a resource for decontamination, inspection, assembly and sterilization of all basic and specialized complex instrumentation and troubleshoots equipment or product failure. Completes and maintains appropriate records and logs pertaining to instrument or equipment processing and sterilization. Provides technical expertise for all customers both internal and external. Performs and monitors others in the preparation of complex case cart functions. Assists in resolving problems both clinical and personnel related and responds quickly to emergency situations. Assists in the training of Caregivers. Performs receiving, stocking and inventory functions. Monitors departmental quality assurance standards and ensures that standards are met. Evaluates supply and equipment usage. Participates in providing in-services and continuing education programs. Other duties as assigned.
