Assistant Fleet Manager
Responsibilities
- Driver Oversight: Set clear expectations for assigned drivers regarding safety, performance, and compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Safety First: Foster a safety-driven culture by monitoring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
- Performance Monitoring: Track driver metrics such as on-time performance, fuel efficiency, hours of service (HOS), and compliance with routing and scheduling requirements.
- Communication & Coaching: Maintain open lines of communication with drivers, explaining the "why" behind company policies and decisions to promote understanding and alignment.
- Problem-Solving: Quickly and effectively resolve driver issues, including routing, load assignments, and equipment concerns.
- Team Environment: Build a respectful, collaborative team atmosphere where drivers feel supported and empowered to make sound decisions.
- Operational Excellence: Create a sense of urgency within the team to meet delivery timelines, address customer concerns, and handle operational issues promptly.
- Compliance & Documentation: Monitor driver performance and provide documentation, coaching, or corrective action as necessary.
- Previous experience in transportation management, dispatching, or a similar leadership role in the logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, hours of service (HOS), and safety requirements.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other industry-specific tools.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage and motivate drivers.
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset to navigate challenges in transportation operations.
