The university is located off of Interstate 71 in Ashland, Ohio, midway between Cleveland and Columbus.
Job Description
The Director of Digital Media and Broadcasting is responsible for overseeing all multimedia, broadcast and digital storytelling efforts for the athletic department. This role supervises student media staff. It will collaborate with the Ashland University Marketing Office, the Journalism and Digital Media faculty and coaches and staff members within the athletic department. This position will ensure high-quality production and brand consistency across all platforms. The director will manage live event broadcasts on FloCollege Sports, ensuring compliance with GMAC contractual and technical requirements. The director will provide the vision for social media strategy, graphic design and overall athletics branding. This is a full-time position and will require some weekend and evening work. The director reports to the Director of Athletics and the Assistant Athletic Director/SWA. This position could evolve into an Assistant Athletic Director level position commensurate with experience and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, train and schedule student workers and part-time workers.
Oversee live broadcast production for FloCollege Sports, ensuring quality control and contract compliance.
Work closely with the Ashland University Marketing Office and Journalism and Digital Media faculty, as well as Ashland University coaches and staff.
Manage and direct social media strategy, content and promotional campaigns.
Take the lead in formulating graphic design standards and Athletics branding.
Maintain consistent visual and editorial standards aligned with Ashland University branding.
Coordinate game-day media operations for home athletic events.
The director must have an understanding of Ashland University’s mission and goals. Applicants must have the ability to explain these to student-athletes.
The director will attend weekly meetings of the Athletic Department Executive Staff.
The director will work with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference office (GMAC) to promote and publicize Ashland University and the GMAC. This includes special events, tournaments and championships and student-athlete all-conference recognition.
The director will meet regularly with coaches and athletic department personnel and advise them on the best way to promote and publicize key events, postseason events, awards and honors and camps and clinics.
This position will report to Director of Athletics and will be available for other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in sports management, communications, broadcasting, digital media, marketing or a related field is required.
Two to four years of experience in digital media, sports broadcasting, video production or athletic communications is highly preferred.
Experience managing social media platforms for an organization or athletic program is highly preferred.
Knowledge of live streaming platforms and broadcast production equipment is essential in this position.
Strong video editing and graphic design skills are required.
Candidates should be comfortable working with student-athletes and coaches.
Previous experience in college athletics or other athletic organizations is highly desired.
This position requires well-developed communication skills, as well as strong time management and organizational skills. This position requires the ability to tell the stories of student-athletes, coaches and Ashland University Athletics.
The ability to manage a budget is desired.
The ability to work weekends and evenings is required. This position will require some travel.
