What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education-RISE (Life Skills Program) 25-26 school year position at Ashland Middle School?

Ashland Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, qualified special education teacher to join our team at Ashland Middle School. The special education teacher provides appropriate educational programming for students on IEP’s. This is a lead teacher position for our RISE (Life Skills Program) requiring the implementation of ABA practices and the modification of grade level curriculum.  The Special Education Teacher will need to use their knowledge of compliance to develop individualized goal areas necessary for individual students and prepare for and participate in IEP Team Meetings. The ideal candidate(s) will work with our students to decrease interfering behaviors and increase skill acquisition. This position also requires  implementing behavioral intervention plans, monitoring student behavior, data collection and reporting, providing information to appropriate school personnel, physical management, assistance with daily living skills, directing support staff (ESPs), and communicating effectively with program lead teachers and building administration when needed. The candidate will work with the Special Education Administrator, the Director of Student Services, and School Administration.  

 

Requirements

  • Candidates for consideration must have:
  • ABA experience
  • Experience working with children
  • Severe special needs license is required

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Creating a warm, inclusive classroom environment
  • Delivering small group and individual direct instruction for all content areas
  • Developing and implementing academic programming using a discrete trial method as needed
  • Writing and maintaining individual behavior plans
  • Lead a small team of Educational Support Personnel 
  • Manage differing staff and student schedules on daily basis
  • Conducting IEP meetings and completing all related paperwork 
  • Monitoring progress toward IEP goals through data collection, formal and informal assessment Communicate with parents 
  • Attending department and school wide meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with all related service providers

 

  • Assist classroom teachers with and facilitate data collection, program implementation, and overall generalization of skills;
  • Complete/support completion of parent communication logs and District documents as required;
  • Use ABA procedures to conduct student programs and actively take/maintain student data; 
  • Participate in de-escalation/restraint training; become certified in its implementation and maintain the ability to implement restraint techniques and be familiar with regulations related to restraint use;
  • Respect children's confidentiality in all interactions with staff, parents and school community;
  • Model and promotes appropriate communication, socialization and conversation skills;
  • Assist with functional daily living skills including but not limited to feeding, toileting, dressing, hygiene skills, mobility and vision assistance, lifting/transfers, and others as required;
  • Participate in staff training/professional development specific to the children's disabilities as directed;
  • Other duties and supports assigned by the principal, teacher(s), special education coordinator, or director of special education.
