What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Coordinator position at Ashburnham-Westminster Regional Schools?
Position Responsibilities:
Coordinate and manage the special education referral, consent, evaluation, and re-evaluation processes in accordance with state and federal special education regulations and timelines.
Chair Team meetings related to initial evaluations, re-evaluations, eligibility determinations, independent educational evaluations (IEEs), and review of outside evaluations.
Ensure compliance with all procedural requirements related to special education evaluations, Team meetings, documentation, notices, and timelines, including timely distribution of evaluation reports and meeting materials to families and Team members.
Oversee the implementation and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure services are delivered in accordance with student needs, eligibility requirements, and applicable regulations.
Maintain accurate and confidential student records and documentation related to special education services and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with building principals, district administrators, related service providers, general education staff, and special education staff to support student programming, problem-solving, and service delivery.
Provide consultation and case management support regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, behavioral supports, and specialized programming for students with disabilities.
Participate in Student Support Teams/Instructional Support Teams and other problem-solving or intervention-based meetings as appropriate.
Assist in monitoring district special education programs and support continuous improvement efforts related to inclusive practices, student outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
Coordinate and monitor assigned out-of-district placements and caseload responsibilities.
Participate in mediations, Bureau of Special Education Appeals (BSEA) matters, and other dispute resolution processes as needed.
Assist with data collection, reporting, and compliance activities related to DESE State Performance Plan indicators and other district initiatives.
Support families and staff through collaborative communication, problem-solving, and ongoing consultation.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services.
