Ascribe Bioscience develops next-generation, sustainable crop protection products that help farmers improve crop health and resilience. We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Research Scientist to join our plant science research team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the development and optimization of natural small-molecule products that enhance crop defense responses in real-world agricultural systems.
Position Summary
The Research Scientist will play a key role in advancing innovative crop protection technologies through hands-on laboratory and greenhouse research. The successful candidate will design and execute experiments investigating plant defense responses, evaluate natural small molecules, and apply molecular biology and analytical chemistry techniques, including LCMS. This position is ideal for a scientist with relevant agricultural industry experience who thrives in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment and is passionate about sustainable agriculture.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and refine experiments to assess plant defense responses induced by natural small molecules and defense elicitors
- Operate, maintain, and interpret data from LCMS and other biochemical or molecular analysis platforms
- Conduct plant-based efficacy assessments in laboratory and greenhouse settings, including protocol development, data collection, and analysis
- Perform molecular biology experiments (e.g., gene expression analysis) and other standard laboratory techniques
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, growers, and contractors
- Analyze, synthesize, and report findings from multiple data sources, providing clear recommendations for next steps
- Independently prioritize tasks and take initiative in a fast-paced research environment
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology, Crop Science, Agronomy, Biochemistry, or a related field
- Relevant industry experience in agricultural biotechnology, crop protection, or a closely related applied research setting is required
- Strong preference for candidates with plant pathology research experience
- Experience with seed treatment workflows is a plus
- Proven ability to analyze data, manage multiple projects, and draw meaningful conclusions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience designing and conducting laboratory, greenhouse, or field trials is advantageous
- Entrepreneurial, problem-solving mindset well suited to a start-up environment
Position Type & Expected Hours
- Work performed in laboratory, greenhouse, and office settings
- Routine use of laboratory equipment and standard office tools
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States
Travel Requirements
- Occasional travel to meet with commercial partners or attend scientific conferences
