Position Summary
Purpose of the Job
A preventative maintenance technician performs scheduled inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and repairs on equipment and facilities to prevent breakdowns, extend equipment lifespan, and ensure safety and efficiency. Key duties include conducting routine checks of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems; performing minor repairs; documenting all maintenance activities; and maintaining inventory and records.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections: Conduct regular inspections of machinery, equipment, and facilities to identify potential issues and needed maintenance.
- Carry out maintenance tasks: Perform lubrication, cleaning, part replacements, and minor repairs on various systems and components.
- Diagnose issues: Troubleshoot and identify the cause of mechanical, electrical, or HVAC malfunctions.
- Record keeping: Maintain detailed logs and records of all maintenance activities, including parts used, time spent, and recommendations for future work.
- Safety compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Respond to requests: Address urgent maintenance requests and work orders to minimize downtime and ensure proper functioning of equipment.
- Inventory management: Manage and maintain an inventory of necessary maintenance parts, supplies, and materials.
- Other duties as required.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
- Associates degree or 3 or more years of experience in an industrial environment working on machine tools and controls.
Skills / Experience:
- Technical skills: Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems
- Analytical skills: Ability to diagnose problems, evaluate situations, and make informed recommendations for repairs or improvements
- Documentation skills: Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting on maintenance activities
- Attention to detail: Thoroughness in inspections and maintenance to prevent future problems
- Communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends, if required
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to work in a 3-shift operation and willing to work overtime as job requires
