Role: Functional Safety Engineer
Location: Detroit, MI 48239
Compensation: $64.39/hr on W2
Fulltime : W2 Candidate Only.
Position Overview
Functional Safety Engineer with 4 to 8 years of automotive experience to engineer end-to-end safety architectures, draft comprehensive ISO 26262 / IEC 61508 work products, and lead technical safety analyses across cross-functional ADAS and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Safety Work Product Lifecycle: Author and review critical safety documents including Item Definitions, Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA), Functional Safety Concepts (FSC), and Technical Safety Concepts (TSC).
* Analytical Safety Engineering: Conduct detailed analytical system safety studies using Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) methodologies.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Feature Owners, Design & Release (D&R) Engineers, Software Engineering teams, and external suppliers to align complex technical safety implementations.
* Testing & Verification: Develop systematic Design Verification Plans and Methods (DVP/DVM) while providing functional support for Breadboard, Vehicle, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments.
* Governance & Standards: Establish and lead working-level engineering safety synchronization meetings, maintaining adherence to the ISO 26262 standard (2018 edition) and manufacturing-phase safety rules.
Required Skillset
* Experience: 4 to 8 years of dedicated experience executing technical safety engineering blueprints within the automotive tier-1 supplier or OEM sectors.
* Standards & Concepts: High-level mastery of the 2018 ISO 26262 standard, IEC 61508 protocols, and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA).
* Domain & ECUs: Functional engineering background in the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) domain or with highly integrated automotive ECUs.
* Software Foundations: Basic structural familiarity with Embedded ECU software architectures written in C, C , or modeled using MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow environments.
