As a Staff Accountant, you will support Cool Fuel’s financial close process to ensure our financial statements are timely, accurate, and in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). You will prepare supporting documentation for assigned general ledger accounts, process manual journal entries as needed, and implement improvements that enhance the accuracy and efficiency of our reporting. You will also play a key role in managing tax compliance, cash flow monitoring, and bank reconciliations while supporting other accounting projects. Key Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for the processing of key financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, depreciation and amortization. Ensure all related records are maintained accurately and in accordance with company policy
- Ensure all accounting practices are in strict adherence to GAAP and internal policies
- Collaborate with leadership to develop budgets, financial forecasts, and financial business plans
- Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate monthly closings, the review of account balances, reconciliation of GL accounts, reconciliation of bank accounts and bank covenant reporting
- Monitor and reconcile daily cash activity; prepare weekly cash schedules and forecasts for leadership
- Coordinate the annual external audit with external audit partners. Work closely with auditors to ensure compliance and resolve any audit-related issues in a timely manner
- Lead initiatives to streamline accounting processes and improve operational efficiency. Implement and execute office policies and procedures with a focus on enhancing overall accounting workflow
- Establish, monitor, and enforce procedures for the accurate and organized retention of financial records
- Administer internal L10 (leadership) meetings and result tracking according to EOS
- Execute the integration of financials with broader enterprise companies
- Streamline processes within the current Transportation Management System (TMS)
- Audit accounting processes, controls, and procedures to ensure their effectiveness and compliance. Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions where necessary
- Safeguard the security, integrity, and confidentiality of financial data, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations
- Effectively communicate and assist with company drivers regarding payroll, administrative, misc.
- Support special accounting projects and financial analysis as assigned by the Assistant Controller
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
Experience and/or Training:
- 2–3 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in public accounting or a manufacturing environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of state and federal sales and use tax principles
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting procedures
- Advanced Excel skills and database management proficiency
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., McLeod, Quickbooks Online)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a continuous improvement mindset
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills
Education:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands:
- Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and use of hands for computer work
- Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 10 lbs.
- Office-based environment with moderate noise levels
- Requires strong reasoning, decision-making, and math skills
The anticipated hiring range for the role you are applying for is between $70,000 and $80,000 annually. This anticipated hiring range is based on several factors, and subject to increase based on the below:
