Position Summary
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing shipping operations and managing the paint and bracing departments within a metal building fabrication facility. This leadership role ensures adherence to safety standards, efficient material handling, and compliance with engineering specifications. The supervisor will train and operate heavy equipment, maintain workflow efficiency, and foster a culture of continuous improvement using lean principles.
Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and training for team members.

Shipping Operations
- Supervise loading, unloading, and staging of metal building components.
- Ensure timely and accurate shipment of orders.

Equipment Operation & Training
- Operate and train staff on Combi-Lifts, Taylor yard loaders, and 5-ton overhead cranes.

Paint & Bracing Department Oversight
- Manage fabrication processes to meet engineering specifications.
- Monitor quality standards and ensure compliance with production requirements.

Leadership & Team Development
- Coach, motivate, and develop direct reports to achieve performance goals.
- Promote a positive and safe work environment.

Process Improvement
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve bottlenecks and optimize workflow.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5 years in a supervisory role within metal building fabrication or similar manufacturing environment.
- Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA standards and ability to enforce compliance.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in operating Combi-Lifts, Taylor yard loaders, and overhead cranes.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive continuous improvement.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and process optimization.
- Lean Manufacturing: Familiarity with lean principles (5S, Kaizen, Kanban) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing or Safety Management.
- Experience with heavy equipment operations and knowledge of shipping processes.
- Knowledge of metal building components and structural specifications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and occasionally operate heavy equipment.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
