What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Controller position at Ascendo Resources?
Controller | Miami (Wynwood) | Hybrid, 4 days on-site |
You have the public company reporting reps. What you don't have yet is the chance to build the function yourself, from private to IPO, at a brand that people actually line up for.
That's this role.
The Opportunity
Our client is a founder-led, high-growth food and beverage lifestyle brand headquartered in Miami. They closed last year around $250M in revenue with roughly 50% annual growth, recently took on a major growth equity investment, and are scaling toward 100 locations nationally. An IPO is targeted within the next two years.
The finance and accounting organization is already built out: a newly appointed CFO, FP&A, audit, technical accounting, and a full transactional team. The current Controller is moving into a VP of Finance role, which is what opens this seat. You'd inherit four managers and a team of 12 to 16, and you'd own the accounting side of taking this company public.
Brand new office in Wynwood. Four days on-site, one remote.
What You'll Do
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close, and shorten the cycle as you go
- Build public company reporting readiness: 10-K, 10-Q, MD&A, and the processes behind them
- Design and implement SOX-ready internal controls ahead of the IPO
- Serve as the technical accounting authority on ASC 842, ASC 606, and new pronouncements
- Manage the external audit relationship end to end
- Lead AP, treasury, GL, and lease accounting through significant transaction volume
- Drive automation and reporting scale through the ERP (Restaurant 365) and connected systems
What We're Looking For
- CPA, required
- Public company reporting experience: SEC filings, MD&A, auditor management
- Big 4 or national public accounting background, strongly preferred
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience with real leadership time
- Multi-unit experience (restaurant, retail, hospitality, fast casual) strongly preferred
- Deep GAAP knowledge, including lease and revenue recognition standards
Why It's Worth Your Time
Very competitive base plus a target bonus. Medical, dental, vision, PTO, and meal benefits. But the real return is timing: pre-IPO, well capitalized, and a leadership team that is hiring ahead of growth rather than behind it. The corporate team went from 20 people to over 100 in the last year.
